I know I am skipping a few points about how I arrived at that question and why I think it is important; I think I more than amply covered that in my prospectus defense and I don't want to belabor it, but I do just want to point out that people have been building these humanoid musical machines literally since the beginning of written history, and even though timbre plays a key role in the way humans play instruments, it really hasn't been studied almost at all with regard to how robots play instruments.
