This is a panel mount Rean (Neutrik) male XLR connector. It is a high-quality metal connector. You might use it in conjunction with Marshmallow DIY Phantom preamp to make a phantom powered contact mic. If, for example, you were building a musical instrument with a builtin contact mic, you might put a piezo disc and preamp inside of the instrument. You would mount this connector in the body of the instrument. You would then solder wires between the back of the conector and the connector and the preamp. Then you could use a regular XLR cable to connect the instrument to a mixer or audio recording interface which would supply power to the mic and recieve sound from the instrument.

When soldering a cable to this, note that the solder terminals are labelled 1, 2, and 3, as follows: This connector also has an unlabelled solder tab. According to the standards, you should connect this tab to pin 1 by soldering a little wire between them.

This productuct does not come with mounting screws.

We also sell a male cable-mount XLR connector.
