I think many of you have also seen this video but I don't think I have ever played it for my committee, so I just want to play it. [1 minute video]. So, one way that we can understand what Kiki is would be to say that Kiki is an art object or a cultural artifact. So it is like a mechatronic sculpture. I don't want to gloss over that point as I sometimes do, a) because it is a requirement for my degree that along with my dissertation I actually build a working interactive system of some sort, but more importantly I don't want to gloss over it because for me, making is a key part of my process and to a certain degree the act of making this machine or robot provides a foundation for everything else I'm going to tell you about in the next hour.
